It's the Bee's Knees!
Returning to our roots, this December, Ballet Western Reserve will present the classic holiday ballet, The Nutcracker with a 1920s jazz age twist and live music performed by the YSU Jazz Ensemble to accompany the production.
Performances will be held at the historic Stambaugh Auditorium, Friday, December 7 at 7:00 pm and Sunday, December 9 at 2:00 p.m. The family-friendly and affordable event will feature the dancers of Ballet Western Reserve and will include members of the Youngstown community.
Musical accompaniment will be performed live by Youngstown State University’s Dana Jazz Ensemble, and will feature the music of Duke Ellington, Billy Strayhorn, Glenn Miller and more. This collaboration between BWR and YSU, representing the area’s only holiday ballet production with live music, is part of the Dana School of Music’s 150th anniversary celebration.
In addition to the two public performances, a student performance will be held on Friday morning, December 7. This special 60-minute educational and interactive production was created especially to entertain children and introduce them to the art of dance and the excitement of live music.
Tickets go on sale this Friday, August 3 at 10:00 a.m. at the Florence and Ward Beecher Box office at Stambaugh, by phone at 330-259-0555, online at stambaughauditorium.com, or in person at the box office.
